About the role

The School of Art is looking for an artist or art historian with experience of working in HE art education to teach on the Critical Studies course on its sector leading BA Fine Art. The post involves teaching across three years, delivering individual and group tutorials, lectures and seminars. You will take responsibility for a year group, do academic administration associated with teaching and assessment, and take part in interviewing of applicants to the programme. The course runs across three years, comprising lectures and seminars in the first year; research based courses on a range of subjects in the second and a 7,500 word dissertation in the third. The post will require an average of two days of teaching per week during term time (Mondays and Wednesdays).

You will be an artist or art historian with a professional record of international standing, will have experience of teaching in HE Fine Art and be responsive to the varied and specific needs of those on this strongly student-centered course. The School expects that you will have an active and internationally recognised research profile, and that you will produce research outputs to be submitted to the REF. About the role

We are seeking to appoint a fixed-term, 0.8 FTE Lecturer on a Teaching & Research post in Sociology with expertise in one or more areas of social theory, political philosophy / philosophy of ethics and political economy. The role involves teaching and convening core modules across our undergraduate programmes BA Politics, Philosophy and Economics and BA Sociology. The successful candidate will also serve as a personal tutor to undergraduate students, providing academic and pastoral support, and will supervise undergraduate dissertations. The role requires a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and student engagement across the department’s undergraduate programmes.

You will hold a PhD in Sociology or another discipline relevant to the role profile. About the role

As Lab Producer (ACES), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth delivery of the Lab’s ambitious, distributed multi-partner research plans. With a focus on research coordination and delivery of ACES (AI, Carbon, Equity, Skills), one of the Lab’s sub-projects funded by the BFI Challenge Fund, you will work closely with the Foresight Lab Programme Manager, the Lab Director, and ACES Co-Directors at the University of Edinburgh, and Loughborough University), as well as the project’s delivery partners, Julie’s Bicycle and Sunderland Software City. About the Role

The post-doctoral research associate will work on the international project ‘State-tech relations in the datafied welfare state: Examining the computational transformation of the European Social Model [STATETECH]’ led by Prof Lina Dencik and funded by an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council. The project explores the relationship between digital technology providers and European welfare states in the context of data-driven innovation. The candidate will oversee the work package on ‘infrastructures’ that examines the features and ecosystems of platforms and AI applications that are used by different governments. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively to map data infrastructures and have the ability to use some data science methods. 

About the Candidate

The successful candidate must have a PhD in infrastructure studies, data science or related fields, and have experience mapping data infrastructures. We are particularly looking for someone who has a good understanding of the technical features of platforms and AI and who is able to use some data science methods to collect and visualize data on government data systems in Europe.
